For more than 32 years, Wanda Kenton Smith has been on the cutting edge of both media and marketing.
As a degreed journalist, Wanda has edited two national consumer magazines and three b2b trade publications, plus served as the national marketing columnist for Soundings Trade Only since 1998. She has by-lined more than 500 published articles in dozens of print and online publications, plus edited three books.
Wanda has deftly crafted her highly honed writing skills to translate to a broad spectrum of mediums. She is an award-winning advertising copywriter and an internationally recognized scriptwriter and creative/video director. Her words are SEO savvy for the web – she's produced original content for massive sites - while equally powerful in punching out succinct headlines, press releases, hot tweets and blog posts. She's ghost written hundreds of speeches for executives, produced a wealth of compelling sales and marketing presentations, plus delivered highly rated marketing seminars and workshops to national and regional audiences in multiple industries.
For nearly 13 years, Wanda served as president of Kenton Smith Advertising & Public Relations, a $20 million, multi-award winning agency she built, serving more than 30 national and global accounts. She shifted gears in 2009 and launched a more nimble business model, Kenton Smith Marketing.
Today, Wanda focuses her abundant energy, experience and talent as Chief Marketing Officer of Freedom Boat Club, the largest and oldest boat club in the world, with 12,000 members in 110 locations and 21 states and Canada and a fleet of 1,100 boats nationwide. As time allows, she also consults, plus manages a few select project-based accounts. Most recently. she served 3.5 years as contracted director of marketing for Legendary Marine, the #1 Ranked Boat Dealer in North America for 2012 and 2013.
Presently, Wanda serves as president of Marine Marketers of America and is also the chairperson of the marine industry's RBLC National Diversity Task Force. She is the former president of both International Women in Boating and Marine Marketing to Women, the latter an educational company that trained thousands of retail and industry manufacturers. She is a member of Boating Writers International and has judged eight national journalism/writing competitions. She is also an avid supporter of Auburn University and chaired the Auburn University Journalism Alumni Advisory Board for three years.
When she's not purposefully pounding out the copy, she's passionately pounding the pavement and putting on the miles on her beloved purple Screaming Eagle CVO Fat Boy.
In 2013, Wanda organized and promoted Boaterz n Bikerz Across America: A Hull of a Tour, an 11-day, 3,000 mile cross country motorcycle and boat adventure. Her blogs were featured daily in Soundings Trade Today and covered online, in print and TV through a variety of media.
In 2015, Wanda organized and launched The Freedom Ride, a 2000-mile adventure from SW Florida to Washington DC, sponsored by Freedom Boat Club, Hurricane Boats, Soundings Trade Only and produced by Kenton Smith Marketing.
The adventure included a historic mix of venues up the east coast, along with stops at Freedom Boat Clubs in Sarasota, St. Augustine, Savannah, Myrtle Beach and Annapolis, MD. The grand finale included participation in Rolling Thunder on Memorial Day weekend and an escorted ride from the Pentagon to the Viet Nam Memorial Wall involving 900,000 bikes.
For 2016, THE PACIFIC COAST RUSH launches in the Wild, Wild West on Saturday, June 23. A dozen motorcycles have been shipped from all points in Florida for download in Seattle where East Coast bikers join others from Ohio, Washington State and California. This weeklong cruise runs 2000-miles from Seattle to San Francisco, with a swing out to Big Sur.
After launching the tour with a brunch cruise aboard a 78’ Ocean Alexander luxury motoryacht hosted by tour sponsors Regal Boats and Alexander Marine USA, riders will set off on a spectacular journey that includes visits
to Mount Ranier and Fort Hood, with a ride along the rim of Crater Lake. The excursion embraces a series of spectacular waterfalls and then rumbles under towering Redwoods in two locations. The tour stretches along the spectacular Pacific Coast Highway with stops amid multiple
iconic California towns like Eureka, Bodega Bay and Half Moon Bay.
After rolling over the Golden Gate Bridge, the tour spends a few days in the famous Monterey/Big Sur area, with a visit to the famous Hearst Castle in San Simeon. The final day runs the Santa Cruz Mountains and then back to the big city, with the final ride down the most crooked street in all of America, Lombard Street. To celebrate and toast the tour, Title Sponsor Freedom Boat Club hosts a Sunset Sailabration aboard a party-sized Adventure Cat on San Francisco Bay!
